WWI British Army Machine Gunners Vest - Rare. A WW1 British Army Machine Gunners Vest.
These waistcoats were used by Machine Gunners who carried the tripod and gun. The waistcoat helped provide extra protection to the mens' shoulders from the hot barrels when using and firing machine guns.
The vest would also provide aid when carrying the guns and tripods as the shoulder pads prevented slippage. Army green wool, with brushed leather shoulder pads. There is some moth damage to the front right collar, and a couple small holes on the placket. A bit of a thin area to the rear of the left pad/roll on the edge of the shoulder. The buttons are in good, sharp condition.Nice, scarce piece from this era. Two stamped marks on the inside: 1 B251 and 2P W-? The buttons are stamped Morton & Crowder, LTD.
