RARE SET OF 4 GREAT BRITAIN BRITISH PUB TOKENS 1d-3d JAMES PANNELL SELSEY ARMS
Offered is a rare and unusual set of 4 Pub tickets, or tokens, likely issued by James Pannell, proprietor of the Selsey Arms in West Dean, Chichester (listed in the directories from the 1860s until his death in 1891). These brass pieces represented credit, and are uniface, with rough reverses similar to those used by contemporary fish mongers, as in both instances, one did not want the planchet to stick to the wet counter / bar. A very interesting quartet worthy of further research.
