British/ UK MKIII'turtle' combat helmet, 1945 issue. Very neat example of a genuine wartime MKIII - Mark 3 combat helmet, primarly issued on D-Day for beach assault troops. The MKIII was the immediate follow-up of the MKII, the overal shape of the shell changed, but the liner remained the same, with the screw-net attachment.
It's only with the issue of the later MKIV that the whole attachment system was changed. This one is in exellent condition for it's age, great wear and still remains of the sand-finish on the lower part of the shell... This one hasn't been sitting on a shelve, it's been there. The helmet is in very good condition for it`s age, no dings, holes or cracks. Very light scuffs, and mainly paint losses on the outer rim.The liner is a standard MKII issue one, in oilcloth. Normal wear here and there, it was made by CCL and has the (rather) rare size 7 3/4, wich makes it amongst the biggest sizes ever issued in this type of helmets. The chinstrap is the late war type, out of tan elasticed canvas, and still in very good condition aswell. The shell is clearly stamped RO and CO 1945, meaning it was manufactured by Rubery Owen co. A helmet you won`t find in this configuration so easely!
