(AAGB) was established in 1940 by a group of Americans living in London for the purpose of providing emergency vehicles and ambulance crews to the United Kingdom during. By the end of the Second World War the American Ambulance operated a fleet of 300 vehicles, most of which were ambulances. The American Ambulance, Great Britain, operated from 17 x stations across Great Britain, with five located in London and one each in Cardiff, Cambridge, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Reading & Tunbridge Wells. The ambulance staff comprised around 400 British women aged between 18 and 45.
S ome of whom were seconded from the Mechanised Transport Corps (for Women) and the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry / Women's Transport Services. During the course of the war, three British women members of the organisation were killed on active service. A rare item of Women's insignia.
