A unique opportunity to obtain a unique find being two standard Brodie pattern helmets both dated 1939. In wonderful condition, both identically maker marked to the liner Vero, one size stamped 7 ¼ and the other 6 ¾ both dated 1939.

The larger helmet is complete in its original brown/olive green issue paint and its elasticated chinstrap has hand painted on the underside rim Beatrice Carter EIBC 1372, 44 Carisbrooke Road, St Leonards on Sea, Sussex. The smaller helmet retains all of its brown/olive green paint for the interior, the outside has had the brown/olive green over pained in a matt black and is marked identically to the first helmet Walter J. Carter EIBC 1375 with the same address 44 Carisbrooke Road, St Leonards on Sea, Sussex. The story is that the two sets of numbers being helmets worn by the husband and wife whilst fire watching/air raid duty for a company in that area. I have done some research and found that indeed they were husband and wife and lived at the above address, Walter James Carter died 25/4/1970.

A unique find for the Home Front collectors. These helmets would have seen action throughout WWII, Battle of Britain, The Retreat of Dunkirk, invasion of Dunkirk.

Hastings had a large amount of antiaircraft guns positioned on the beachfronts in the aim to stop the Luftwaffe bombing key strategic areas, during the famous Battle of Britain. Rare to find Named Brodie Hats especially rarer husband and wife. Great project to research the lives of these two brave people by the next owner. 1 x 7 ¼ and 1 x 6 ¾.

Wonderful condition, light scratches here and there consistent with age and use. Chinstraps in superb condition along with leather interior, please see photos to judge for yourself. Maybe a gift for someone special, birthdays , christenings , all occasions, for your own collection maybe.
