Very Rare World War One Tank Splinter Mask. These mask were made during World War One, when they realized that there was real danger within the tank from the effect of bullets, shrapnel and artillery hits on the outside of the tank. When a round would hit the outside of the tank it would produce a shock wave effect which would splinter fragments of metal and piece of paint that would fly and would damage their eyes and face. Most of these masks, which were made in small numbers and over the 100 years, have not survived. This Splinter Face Mask is in good condition for its age... The top stitching to the leather is missing and the tie tapes look to have been replaced and believed not to be original.
