1854 Victoria young (large) head shield reverse sovereigns are struck in 22 carat gold. Intended for use as circulation coins, these British coins were minted only in London for this date.

With only 3,589,611 minted, the 1854 is rather an uncommon date for this design. In 1854, there were two types of shield sovereigns: the engraver initials WW at the trunk of the head, wich are raised on the first 1854 type and incuse od the second type. The coin wich is for sale here is from the second type, with incuse WW initials.

IN MY OPINION IT IS A NICE EXAMPLE IN VF+ CONDITION. PLEASE TAKE A CLOSE LOOK AS THESE PICTURES, AS THEY FORM THE MAIN PART OF THE DESCRIPTION. I haven't tried to hide any imperfections.
