This is an original 5 pocket (50 round) mounted cavalry ammunition bandolier. There are many reproductions of this bandolier but an original is rare. It has dark brown leather with a brass triangle strap connection making it a Mk. II as noted below from Karkeeweb.

It is maker marked HGR for Hepburn Gale & Ross Ltd. And also has a 4E07 stamping which may be a production year of 1907. I can not find any other markings on this bandolier.

Condition is excellent for its age. Leather is very supple and clean, rivets are tight, flap buttons are solid, buckles and straps are complete and functional.

There is some minor blood staining on the inside of main webbing. This bandolier has an unusual main buckle that is poorly cast compared to the other buckles. It almost looks hand hewn. Bandolier Equipment, Pattern 1903 50 Round Bandolier, Mk.

In List of Changes entry §13273, dated 27th November 1905. It is similar to the. Version, except that the complicated buckle of the.

Has been replaced by a plain buckle, a short strap, and a brass triangle. Was produced in huge numbers, and was still being made in South Africa as late as the 2. This unusual example is maker marked Hepburn Gale & Ross Ltd. (HGR stamping) and is dated 1907? See the Karkee Web Collection.
