As is known to most of the world crown collectors, 1847 Gothic Type Crowns are divided into two big categories, one is the most common lettered edge type and the other is the much rarer plain edge type. However, Plain Edge types are actually also divided into two categories, one is the more common (comparatively) type struck in 0.925 silver (sterling) and the other is the exceedingly rare type struck in 0.999 silver (pure silver). Moreover, there are two types of pure silver piece, VIP type and the normal type. According to ESC, VIP type is a R-6 coin (only 3-4 pieces known) and all of them should come with totally back and white frosted field. Regarding the normal pure silver type, it is described in ESC that "only a few pieces were struck in pure silver".

According to some of the top and most experienced GB coin experts and dealers, the normal pure silver type should be a R-3--R-4 level coin, which means less than 50 pieces known.
